Preparing for Your Microsoft Certification Exam 70-778: Analyzing and Visualizing Power BI Data

If you aspire to become a business intelligence analyst, you have to take the Microsoft Certification Exams.

Exam 70-788 and Exam 70-799

If you are working toward a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate certification and focusing on Power BI, there are two exams you will have to pass.

First is the Exam 70-788, and the other is the Exam 70-799, which is the Microsoft Excel Data Analyzation and Visualization.

In Power BI Analyzation and Visualization, you will be challenged with 45 questions in multiple-choice format.

You will get two hours to complete the exam. A large chunk of the items are based on real-life scenarios, and you will have to justify your answer.

To secure your certification and count yourself among the Power BI experts, you need to score at least 700 out of the potential 1,000 marks.

The questions are typically a screenshot of the actual application. The multiple-choice questions may have one or two answers.

Three Main Sections

The three main sections will measure your skill level.

  1. Consuming and transforming data using Power BI (25-30%)
  2. Modelling and visualizing data (45-50%)
  3. Configuring dashboards with Power BI (25-30%)

1. Consuming and Transforming Data

  • You will be tested on how to connect to data sources. You can expect to perform how to connect to files databases, SQL Azure, Excel, and SQL Server Analysis Services.
  • You will be tested on how to perform a transformation. This test includes designing and deploying fundamental and advanced transformations. You will also be required to change data in support of Power BI visualization.
  • Your knowledge of cleansing data will be tested. This test includes incomplete data and how to manage them while also adhering to benchmarks in data quality.

2. Modelling and Visualizing Data

  • You will prove that you know how to optimize data models for reporting, managing relationships, and the use of Power Query.
  • Your knowledge of creating hierarchies based on organizational needs, as well as adding columns to the designed hierarchy, will be tested.
  • You will create interactive visualization, page layout, and formatting. You will also formulate, align, and arrange visuals, enable R visuals, and use all themes and bookmarks for the Power BI reports.
  • You will be asked to measure the performance and values using cards, gauges, and key performance indicators.
  • You will create and configure reports and customized reporting solutions. You will also be asked to push data to the dataset using the application programming interface.

3. Configuring Dashboards

  • You will use the data gateway to connect to the data source.
  • You will publish reports using your Power BI Desktop and push data to the Power BI service. You will also edit the reports through your BI Desktop.
  • You will configure the dashboard by adding images and texts, filters, configuring settings, and customizing the title and URL.
  • You will embed reports in the Power BI Server and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Ensure that the dashboards are secure. You will configure the dashboard to limit access to authorized teams and workspaces. You will also be in charge to set the sharing configuration of the users.
  • You will set up workspaces.
